To our gang,

Over the last year a lot of things have changed for us, both as a company and as people. This has meant adapting and considering what the future might look like. We’ve always prioritised the care of the people we work with and sometimes that care means people needing to make important changes, and with that in mind, we have some news...

Scottee, our co-director and co-founder, is leaving the company.

You may be aware that last year was particularly challenging for Scottee, you may have seen we made the decision to postpone the Class tour to support Scottee whilst they recovered and rested...

“Having spent most of last year in the support of an NHS specialist psychiatric team, I’ve been given new diagnoses to understand – autism + emotionally unstable personality disorder.

I’ve learnt a lot about myself over the past year. Having led creatively for over a decade – across art-forms, time zones and difficult landscapes, I think I’m ready for a change of pace, responsibility and to enjoy some much needed time in the passenger seat.”

Scottee

Our company was co-founded by Molly Nicholson and Scottee back in 2017 in gay pubs and on muddy stages of festivals. Together the pair created a powerhouse that has produced critically acclaimed work across the UK – from award winning dance shows exploring fatness, working class provocations and queer activism in places queers are rarely heard! Through the determination of Molly and Scottee, Scottee & Friends went from flogging eyelashes in disused car parks to make ends meet, to being recognised by the sector, funders and audiences for creating outstanding, provocative and effective work rooted in social justice.

But Molly and Scottee have always been determined that their company should be bigger than them as individuals. Along with Associate Director Matty May, who has been a part of the company since 2019, we’ve always pushed for it to empower, encourage and employ a wide range of artists, producers and participants.

It’s the end of an era but the start of a new one. We hope you’ll agree it feels exciting and timely. We're so excited to see this next stage for Scottee and send a huge thank you for all the good times.

As for the company, we’ll temporarily be going by &Friends (see what we’ve done there?) whilst we take a slight pause to catch our breath, reset and look to the future. We’re excited about the next evolution of the company, the work we’re yet to make and the people we’re yet to work with.

Thank you to everyone involved so far, we’ll see you all soon.

With love, Molly, Scottee, Matty and the gang.

& Friends will BRB x
