Blog
50 YEARS ON | 2017
Hey Weirdos, it’s been awhile since we properly caught up so thought it time to blog my thoughts and feelings instead of make you pay for them. I think I stopped blogging like this because we send a monthly mailout with all the plugs in the world but perhaps I should talk to you more, would you like that?
Local Gossip // January
A nomadic monthly meeting for Southend artists, makers, faciliatators and do-ers to talk about their work, share knowledge and spread gossip - somewhere between a forum, coffee morning and therapy.
No Culture Day
I'm currently helping to orginise the easiest campaign you've ever been asked to be apart of - No Culture Day.
The astute amongst you will know I live in Southend-on-Sea. It's great here - we have the best charity shops in the country, the longest pier in the world and an MP who was fooled into bringing Chris Morris' made up drug CAKE to parliament.
2016
I’m aware this week the internet has become a plethora of endless lists about 2016; Top 10 Celebrities who Died, Top 43 People from X Factor who Almost Died, Top 10 Great Blonde Dictators - Click Here Because the Answer will Really Shock You etc. but still I’m going to yet again compile my year.
A Local Blog for Local People
Those of you who follow my social media intently will know three things - I have a complex relationship to the work of Chas & Dave, Wayne Sleep and I have the same taste in footwear and I’ve recently moved to the seaside, namely Westcliff on Sea.
Notepad Warrior | Online Workshop
After the success of our first round of warrior workshops, with 40 artists across three continents - we're doing another round and you're invited to get involved!
PWIYM | The First of the Reviews...
Fellow Weirdos, if you've been living away from social media, local radio stations, lefty press and niche London TV channels you may have missed the fact I opened a new show at Roundhouse this week - Putting Words in Your Mouth.
CAMP NYE ON SALE!
For the past three years Scottee and his gang of weirdos have sorted your New Years Eve celebrations! We've given you Lauren Harries doing the conga, Black Lace doing the conga and Margarita Pracatan sort of doing the conga ...and then almost falling off stage.
Are Fat Men *Just* Funny?
From James Corden to Danny DeVito, Johnny Vegas to Matt Lucas – in show business the fat guy is often the funny one, but still no one wants to sit next to a fatty on the bus.
Local Gossip
I recently relocated my studio and home to the beautiful Southend on Sea! Already I've met some really brilliant artists, all of whom have been super welcoming and encouraging. Being a newcomer means people quickly help you get up to speed with local gossip. Over many cups of tea and pints of lemonade we've shared frustrations with the sector, pondered the lack of programming and opportunities for performance in this part of the world and dreamt up plans that for fill our art dreams.
THE DOOR | HULL
We're unveiling a new performance installation in Hull this week! Shortly before it lands in one of the cities neighbourhoods, local advertisements, flyer drops and social media posts will let punters know where it roughly is and when it's happening - what it won't tell is what's on the other side.
Any Excuse Documentation
We recently debuted new touring installation Any Excuse, part of the Park Tales weekend from Peterborough Presents, Vivacity, Metal and Nene Park Trust. An experience for four mates, they dive in our secluded hot tub and leave knowing each other a bit better…
Any Excuse | Peterborough
We're giving ten groups of mates from Peterborough the chance to spend dawn or dusk with each other, in a wood fired hot tub with a bottle of bubbles and some sweet things in a beautiful experience you'll never forget!
Never Forget.
I’m angry, angry that yet again queer people have been killed for being themselves. Angry that someone was able to get hold of a gun in a country that values access to weaponry greater than the lives of those killed by them.
Making Stuff About Stuff Workshop
Our next weekend of performance making is fast approaching! Explore making short performance, variety, theatre and live art about stuff that matters - politics, sex, sexuality, gender, poverty, race, class, identity and then some! Create politically motivated work, devise activist art, socially engaged practice, ideas generation and how to harness the fire in your belly effectively. Over two days workshop you'll touch on the art of facilitating stories and how to navigate an arts scene that thinks community engagement is potato stamping!
Sobering Words
Today marks the start of my sixth month of sobriety. After a friends passing comment noticing how much I liked a drink, a bout of depression and yet another prosecco hangover I decided to hit the sauce on the head.
Casting Call: Putting Words in Your Mouth
Roundhouse Associate Artist Scottee is making a show about tension and aggression within the LGBTQI* community. The show debuts in November at Roundhouse and will be performed by queer and trans* BAME performers.
